If you do not live on the island, check the tide timetable. If the tide is predicted to be 5 or more metres, then allow approximately 1 hour before and 1 hour after the peak time. Do not attempt to cross when the Strood has water on it, no matter how shallow it may appear. Your car could be written off and you won't be very popular, so don't be selfish and enjoy your shellfish.
